INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND EVER-INCREASING TUITION FEE
Paying the university tuition fee is always difficult for many international students all over the world. On the one hand, tuition fees are increasing on regular basis, and on the other hand, international students are not getting enough part-time jobs. In this situation, it will be an uphill task for international students to continue their studies abroad. Thus, some scholars, however, suggest removing certain subjects like arts, history, and philosophy to reduce the cost of education. Many academicians believe that the arts, philosophy, and history do not hold any significance, and therefore students are not much benefited from the study of such subjects.
Nevertheless, some scholars do not stand in support of those who think that subjects like arts, philosophy, and history should be taken out of the course. They strongly believe that the arts, history, and human psychology are extremely important subjects. These subjects help students understand human psychology and its history.
The subject history is a collection of recorded events. The correct information about those events will give true knowledge about our ancestors and the kind of life they lived in. Historically and psychologically, it has been noticed that human beings in general do not behave similarly. They behave differently in different situations. As a result, many scholars argue that the arts, philosophy, and history should continue to be taught in schools and colleges.
However, due to the increasing numbers of international students, job availability has diminished a lot in many countries. Thus, many experts suggest that only those subjects that are helpful to getting employment should be taught in schools and colleges, and those subjects that do not have practical utility in getting employment should be removed from the education curriculum.
To wrap up in a few words, every subject has its importance, and students will have different likes and dislikes for the subjects. It is a matter of choice for the students. They will decide what subject to study and what not. It is a fact that in recent years, tuition fees have increased at many colleges and universities. Necessary efforts should be made to reduce the increasing tuition fee. But this should not be done by removing subjects like the arts, philosophy, and history. These subjects are necessary for a college education to be completed. Thus, I strongly support the idea of continuing to teach arts, psychology, and history in colleges and universities.
However, in order to keep a tab on increasing tuition fees, a few steps can be taken. For example, the college can lay off unnecessary staff. The college can sell off many unused properties. The college can hire young, dynamic, and more competent lecturers and professors who will be ready to teach at a lower pay scale, etc. Similar types of steps can be taken to fight against the increasing amount of tuition fees.
