Working while studying: Is it ok or not?

By Pramisha Sapkota

It is a fact that many students work while studying. Part-time jobs might bring financial independence to students, but it is also true that they will definitely cause them stress. However, there are many pros and cons to a part-time job while studying.

Most of the students do part-time jobs because of their weak financial condition. This is not the case with the children of wealthy people. Working while studying will help students become more responsible. They also understand their responsibilities to their families and society. Moreover, youngsters can get work experience that will certainly help them get a well-paid job in the future. In addition, working part-time will teach them the value of time and money. Most importantly, a part-time job will bring financial independence into their lives. The students can meet their expenses; otherwise, they will depend on their parents.

Unfortunately, nowadays most students are engrossed in social media, and this way they are killing their precious time. They should get a job and do it sincerely. Working a part-time job will teach them a bundle of good things in their lives, for sure. A part-time job is much better than staying at home and playing video games and scrolling videos on YouTube and Netflix. Being engaged in a part-time job will keep students busy. Thus, they can’t afford to waste their time on unproductive things. One thing that all students should understand is that working during free time is the best investment of time itself.

Thus, to wrap up in a few words, studying while working will definitely make them able to fulfill their own demands. Moreover, they will start respecting time and money. A part-time job will expose them to the outside world. And this will make them more careful, wise, and prudent in the future. But this does not mean that students should become money-minded and leave their studies behind. Students must be able to maintain a healthy balance between work and studies. In brief, part-time work and study must go in tandem.

  3. Nepali students are worried of visa only but they pay no attention to learn any skill before leaving Nepal. This is the problem.

  4. I agree with Kushum. Why consultancy in Nepal don't advise students to get some skill before leaving Nepal for higher education. Consultancies should be more responsible.

  5. Students must have work experience in their own countries. if not then they will have more problems abroad. Working and studying together is not that easy. I live in Adelaide, Australia and I know how the life is working and studying together.
