Computers and teachers are meant for the betterment of students
By Prashna Bhari

It has rightly been mentioned that the use of computers has brought a sea change almost in every field. Hardly has there been any field where computers are not used nowadays. After all, computers make difficult tasks much easier. Due to the rapid pace of technological inventions, computers have become more sophisticated and much more effective. With the help of computer technology, modern science has achieved many successes, which are simply mind-boggling indeed.

Many techno-friendly people suggest that when computers are so smart and capable of doing amazing things, why not allow computers to teach students in schools, colleges, and universities?

Well, I am completely against this idea. Certainly, computers are the lifeblood of modern science. Modern science cannot be imagined without computer technology. But it does not mean computers can replace teachers. No matter how intelligent computers are, they can never replace teachers. One thing we should never forget about computers is that even the best computers are programmed by humans. Thus, computers are the creation of the human brain. So, computers cannot be smarter than the human brain.

Moreover, a computer’s brain is programmed. But this is not the case with teachers. Teachers are independent thinkers. Teachers plan to teach their students at different levels. They can change those plans for the betterment of their students. But computers are not independent planners. Moreover, teachers are emotionally attached to their students. But computers are machines, and they are not emotional entities.

However, computers can do a lot of wonderful things in education. But still, computers cannot do many things that teachers can do. Such dynamic abilities of teachers put them on the highest pedestal, and therefore they are the best teachers for their students.

The prime purpose of computers and teachers is to impart better education to students, and this is only possible if computers and teachers work in tandem. Computers and teachers are complementary to each other—they are not the competitors.
