PROMOTE TOURISM WITH CARE AND CAUTION

By Safal Khanal

The rapid pace of globalization has helped world tourism growing fast. Over the past few years, tourism has become one of the major contributors to the economy of several nations. When tourism has many good aspects but that does not mean that it does not have any darker facets. Of course, it has, if not many but definitely some.

The first important thing about tourism is it has created employment. Tourism sector utilizes natural resources, art, culture, tradition and even literature to draw more national and international tourists in the country.

Tourists spend money on a wide range of services such or hotels, transportation, foods and purchasing local produce. This way national and international tourists help country’s economy grow fast. Tourism does also boost travel industry and helps to improve basic infrastructure. For instance, influx of more tourists will create more demand for hotels, tourist guides and so on and so forth.

However, rapid pace of tourism bring some negative impacts as well. Increasing numbers of tourists cause deposit of garbage and trashes. This could be the cause of spreading some deadly bacteria and viruses. Tourists coming from different parts of the world come in close contact with their tropical illness. Some of their diseases could be highly contagious. That can spread quickly among the local people. In addition, tourists coming to the country from different countries will definitely encourage people to bring illegal drugs and smuggled items including gold and other precious metals.

Unfortunately, nowadays most of the youngsters have incessantly drawn towards the western culture. And this has become possible from international tourists. Putting on scanty clothes, consuming drugs and living with multiple female partners are some common practices local people have learned from international tourists. Such potential drawbacks cannot be overlooked.

In conclusion, though tourism industry has some downsides, its benefits simply outweigh its darker sides.
