Setting an equilibrium between work and study

Setting an equilibrium between work and study

I understand the situation for international students who work while studying. This adjustment certainly causes mental stress for students.

In the meantime, most learned people opine that the allotted time for the international students should be cut short so that they can spend more time for their studies. However, I don’t think this is necessary at all. Nowadays, most college students work part-time while studying in their respective countries. Thus, they are quite familiar with the situation, and they know how to manage their time for study and work.

It should be understood that not all the students who go to study abroad are from well-to-do families. Many of them are from middle-class families. Part-time work is not a choice for them; it is a necessity for them. In such a situation, if working time is cut short, this will directly affect the students, who are financially weak. They will be forced to abandon their studies and look for a full-time job. Thus, I don’t think anybody needs to interfere in this matter. Therefore, cutting the working time will do no good for the international students. Let the students manage their times between study and work—they will establish a healthy equilibrium between study and work.

In the meantime, most of the students actually know very well how to manage their time for work and study. So, we should let this matter settle by the students themselves. Any outside interference will only make things go bad to worse.

Working while studying has one special benefit, and it is definitely work experience. Nowadays, getting a desirable job is not that easy. One has to face stiff competition to grab a post in a company. On the other hand, many companies always look for skilled manpower. They give first priority to experienced candidates. No employer would like to hire a novice. In a situation like this, those students who work while studying will benefit in the future.

Well, when I support the concept of working and studying together, it does not mean that all students should work to gain work experience. Those students who are from aristocratic families do not need to work at all. Their parents have strong financial support for their studies. Under this circumstance, the students have the luxury to focus on their studies only.

In conclusion, it is absolutely not necessary to cut short the working time for international students. Let the students adjust their times between study and work at their disposal.
